More and more families require our support while their child is hospitalized, and occupancy at the Buffalo Ronald McDonald House is increasing.
That means the House receives more wear and tear. Frequent renovations and repairs are a must in order to keep it clean, safe, and comfortable for patients and their families.
Fortunately, Dan Boody, Business Manager of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council #4, adopted the House as one of the union’s 2008-09 community projects.
To kick off the new partnership, District Council # 4 presented the Ronald McDonald House with a generous check for $1,000 to purchase painting supplies. A national donation program through Benjamin Moore & Co. provided us with more than 40 gallons of paint.
The Western New York Training Center (District Council #4) used the Ronald McDonald House for on-the-job training for their apprentices and journeymen. Greg Stoner, Apprenticeship Director, and Keith Prieur, Health and Safety Instructor, supervised and instructed the various teams of apprentices and journeymen on how to thoroughly prepare wall, ceiling, and woodwork surfaces and apply the paint or stain. What better on-the-job training than to be able to perform face-lifts on the ornate woodwork, handsome wainscoting and real plaster cornices of this 110-year-old mansion?
Each team worked with extreme care and professionalism, minimizing project noise and stress for our guest families. We look forward to their return this winter.
A special thanks, as well, to the Glazer’s Union that repaired broken sash cords and panes of glass throughout the House prior to the painting.
